I think picking two damage types and sticking with them through your whole playthrough is most important in GD. If you're all over the place with items and skills, doing a little fire, a little physical, a little poison, a little lightning, etc. you're going to suck in late game.
The best starter tip I've seen and now use every time I make a new character is to go into the Crucible right away at level 1 or 2 and use it to get a few Devotion points and a ton of magic/rare gear. Also, enough XP to make level 8-10 in less than an hour. This really kickstarts a build and makes the early game a breeze.

Man, i have a demolitionist and inquisitor build at level 14 or 15, and oh my god! what op character and with a mace that deals lightning damage, i feel unstoppable!
Best advice for you noobs…. put keyboard shortcuts for QWER for skills 1-4 and 1-4 for skills 5-8, and put a unique shortcut for health and energy potions so you can get two more slots to use for skills
under 70 hours playtime, with 4 characters, I still find this extremely useful. Thank you!

lol guy goes on about how squishy all the classes are and puts points into anything but phys.
It is point for point overpowered to put so many points into phys, thats why everyone does it. its way to cost effective to do it any other way
